The iPad Enemies

Of course, the iPad is considered one of the best, if not THE best tablet computer right now. With a 9.7 inch, Retina-enhanced, 2048x1536 screen that allows you to read, view photos, play games and surf the internet in style, there isn’t much which lets the iPad down (apart from the unfortunate lack of Flash compatibility). But there are some other tablets which loom nearby, tablets that could become a worrying threat for the iPad in its entire quad-core graphics, dual-core chip glory.

One particular threat that should really have the developers down at Apple headquarters shaking in their boots is the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity 700, a pretty impressive piece of equipment which boasts a resolution of 1920x1200. While this isn’t as decent as the iPad, the cutting-edge tablet is powered by a fancy new Tegra 3 1.6 GHz quad-core chip for the Wi-Fi only version, something which should have Apple’s smarts gnashing their teeth. The 16/32/6GB of internal storage makes it very much similar to the iPad in terms of storage capabilities, but the renowned Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich should be enough to set it apart.

If Asus doesn’t quite float your boat, maybe the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will. It is bigger than the iPad, with a 10.1 inch screen, and is considerably thinner and lighter, although the resolution isn’t quite up to par. Or maybe the little brother of the 10.1, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 will suit your needs better, with a crisp screen and very decent 1.4GHz dual-core chip. But, considering the price, perhaps one would be better off paying for the iPad, superior in some respects. That doesn’t make the Galaxy Tabs any less formidable for the iPad; they both are certainly worthy enemies.

There are plenty more tablets to stand firmly against the iPad in the perpetual wrestling ring that is the technology market. One must not forget the Motorola Xoom 2, a powerful and solid tablet that is thinner and lighter than its original counterpart. Or if you’re a fan of computers that are named after fruits but aren’t fond of the citrus of the apple, you may find the BlackBerry PlayBook a fine competitor against the iPad. It is considerably cheaper and is relatively simple, but it is still effective and attractive; in a way, it’s the reasonable price which makes the PlayBook so attractive. Of course, there’s Google’s hidden weapon, the Nexus 7.

So, as mighty and powerful, etc, etc, the iPad may be, there are definitely other forces in the tablet market, forces that could potentially prove a threat to Apple.
